About This Experience
An interactive virtual desktop
Retro Desktop Playground recreates the atmosphere of late-1990s personal computers through an original fictional interface called RetroDesk 98. It includes movable application windows, a taskbar, a file explorer, a calculator, a terminal and a playable Minesweeper-inspired game.
The entire experience runs inside your browser. Notepad saves text using browser storage on your own device. The virtual files and terminal commands do not access your actual computer.

Is RetroDesk a real operating system?
No. RetroDesk 98 is a fictional, interactive desktop simulation running entirely inside your browser.
Can I play games on the desktop?
Yes. Minesweeper includes hidden mines, numbered squares, flags and win or lose conditions.
Are my notes saved?
Your Notepad text is saved locally in your browser when storage is available. Clearing your browser data may remove it.
Can I use RetroDesk in fullscreen?
Yes. Launch fullscreen to explore the virtual desktop without surrounding page elements, then press ESC to exit.
